Wood and consumable items for woodturners
When Snainton Woodworking Supplies closed in April 2023, we were left without a local outlet for all those items we woodturners need: finishing products, abrasives, adhesives, wood blanks, tools and equipment. Ryedale Woodturners decided to try and fill the enormous gap left, and set up a small Club Shop which provided some of these items at Club nights (on the first Thursday evening of every month.)
The shop has proved very popular: it is non profit-making, keeps a relatively small stock of regularly used items, and sells these to club members at cost, in some cases at a slight discount compared to retail prices.
Finishing products
We stock a range of items from Chestnut Products: CA and PVA adhesives; waxes; oils; lacquers; sealers. We only keep small quantities of each, making a fresh order every couple of months in response to sales or requests.
Abrasives
We stock RhynoGrip velcro-backed abrasives in 1m x 15cm strips, as well as Rhyno sanding discs in 37mm, 50mm and 60mm sizes, plus the relevant pads and arbors on which to mount these. We have also experimented with some Klingspor sharpening belts for the Sorby Pro-Edge sander.
Turning blanks
We sell all sizes and shapes of turning blanks, in a wide variety of timbers: oak, cherry, ash, elm, sycamore, yew, laburnum, sapele, opepe, and many more. These are often from stores in garage or workshop clearouts, but also occasionally from trees felled in the local area, and sometimes purchased from a local timber yard. We cannot provide to order, but offer "what we have when we have it". at very reasonable prices.
New tools and equipment
We occasionally buy new tools which are on offer. Currently available are:
Chestnut buffing system

Versalock chuck system
Base jaws plus three sets of slot in jaws. Will fit SC3, SC4, Victory and Nova chucks. Have a look at the Record Power site for more details. £120 (these are brand new, unused)
Second hand and used tools
We regularly visit workshop and garage clearances, usually as a result of people downsizing or clearing out due to illness, or sadly sometimes due to a relative passing away. Currently available are:
Trend Airshield Pro respirator helmet

Kirjes sanding system.

Multistar duplex collet chuck system
. With 2 base chucks - ¾ x 16 tpi and 1 x 8tpi threads - plus various jaw sets and two chuck spanners. Probably 30 - 50 years old, and superceded by geared chucks in the 1990s, but still a very efficient chucking system, particularly good at very minimal spigots and recesses (down to 2 mm depth is possible!).
