Calendar of events

Club Meetings are on Thursday evenings, usually 7.00 - 9.30 pm (with an occasional extension to 10pm). Admission is £5, to include refreshments and raffle. Guests are always welcome.

Training days and hands on days, are usually held at members' workshops, with consequent limited numbers - around 6 to 12, with 4 to 6 "tutors" to guide people. These are usually free (members only).

  • Andy describes himself online as a segmented woodturning specialist in miniature hollow forms. At the moment there is little on the web about him, other than reports from clubs on demonstrations he has done.
Katie Armstrong, Woodturner

  • Katie is a graduate of the Emerging Turners programme and a registered RPT, Katie is based in West Yorkshire (Mirfield). She is one of the youngest demonstrators on the circuit.
Rick Dobney woodturner

  • Rick first picked up his turning tools in 2008 as a distraction from his IT day job. Through watching many of the best demonstrators on the circuit, undertaking challenging commissions and spending hours at the lathe, Rick has developed his skills and style of turning. He has established a reputation for exploring turning outside of the ‘Round and Brown’ often incorporating alternative materials into his pieces. Rick is best known for his multi axis and multi centre work turned on a jig he has developed. His workshop is in Derbyshire.
Daniel Fearnley woodturner

  • Dan has worked with his Dad, Steve Fearnley, since 2018, turning all kinds items for their oldfern business. Much of the work entails the creation of bespoke trophies, with appropriate text and pictures applied using pyrography, but he also turns a variety of other items for sale.
Colin Watson - woodturner

  • Colin says on his website: I’ve always enjoyed working with wood and I first took up woodturning in 2013 as what I called my 'retirement hobby. I worked for 30 years in the Oil and Gas Industry, the last 20 of which I lived near Aberdeen. On retirement we moved back to my home county of Yorkshire and I now live near Huddersfield. In March 2023 I became a Registered Professional Turner, I'm also an AWGB Approved Tutor, a member of the Heritage Craft Association and an active member of Huddersfield and District Woodturners.
The Tiny Turner woodturner

  • Emma has been turning for over half her life. Her business name - The Tiny Turner - reflects her small height at 4 foot 10 inches. She is both a carver and a turner - she says "I love to work with a material which has a story and a soul of its own".

  • After leaving school in 2002 I studied furniture making and restoration, whilst working part time in a Woodturning supply shop. In 2014 when I set up Taylors Mirfield, going full time with it in 2019, becoming RPT in 2020. I now offer a broad range of pen turning and woodturning supplies as well as offering tutoring and demonstrations.

  • Steve has been turning since 2009. He is a hobby turner who enjoys all kinds of work, but has specialised in trophy and commemorative item commisions, and in pyrography. His preference is for natural wood finish without texture or colouring. More ...

  • John was chairman of the RPT 2016-2019, and was awarded the British Empire Medal for service to Heritage Crafts. He works from his home in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, hence his appearing via internet connection. He turns a wide range of things from bowls and goblets to newel posts and spindles for joinery manufacturers, replacements for the antique trade and wedding gifts for newly-weds.
