The fourth club exhibition and sale took place at Thornton le Dale Hill Institute on a pleasant weekend (for November). One again we had an impressive display of work, covering the wide variety we all know that woodturners produce. Visitors were very complimentary of the work on show.
Most tables and pieces were set out on Friday evening, and there was a steady flow of people through the door on both days. A rough calculation at the end of Sunday suggested we had taken around £1299, some of which will go to club funds (20% less the cost of the hall rental).
Our thanks as always must go once again to John Whiteley for all his exertions and expertise in this type of event, for his marathon stint manning the cash desk, and for some of his large pieces which boosted the sales total, all of which made the event a success. Thanks also to all who exhibited items and did their bit manning the exhibition and inviting people in off the streets of Thornton le Dale.
"When buying from an artist/maker, you're buying more than just an object/painting. You are buying hundreds of hours of failures and experimentation. You are buying days, weeks, and months of frustration and moments of PURE JOY. YOU AREN'T JUST BUYING A THING, you're buying a piece of heart, part of a soul, a moment of someone's life. Most importantly, you're buying the artist more time to do something they are passionate about."
