2021 Club Exhibition and Sale

Thornton le Dale Hill Institute

Saturday and Sunday 27 and 28 November 2021

The ninth club exhibition and sale took place on an atrocious weekend for weather. Storm Arwen battered the country, arriving on Friday evening as we set up, causing the Whitby Christmas festival to be cancelled, and devasting large tracts of Scotland and the north east. Saturday morning we were lashed with wind and rain, then icy snow fell overnight.

Despite all this we took £1446 in sales, resulting in a £273 net profit from commission for the club after payment of rent for the hall, based on a 20% cut of all sales apart from those where items have been donated to the club. Club members took home £1089 for their efforts. This makes it one of our most successful sale to date. There were 135 items sold, produced by 12 exhibitors, and many members turned up to help at some stage, or just to look at the exhibits and even buy a few pieces.

Payment to club members for their contributions will be made at the next club meeting.

Our thanks as always must go once again to John Whiteley for all his exertions and expertise in this type of event. Also to Martyn Weller for his marathon stint manning the cash desk on both days, and providing a clear spreadsheet of what was sold; to Peter Howells, Phil Coe, Derek Quinn, Ian Temple, Lance Garrard, Steve Fearnley, Jack Scott (and dad), Bob Ingram, and anyone else I may have missed, for their help setting up and clearing away, and for that unenviable but vital job of persuading people in off the street.
