• 25 November 2018 The club exhibition and sale in Thornton le Dale last weekend appeared to be a successful venture. A brief write-up is now on the site.
• 13 November 2018 A write up of Mark Hancock's demonstration is now on the site.
• 26 October 2018 I will be bringing more clearout items from Colin Lee's garage to the November meeting. PVA glue tubes, wax polishes, Danish oil, drillbits, router bits, clamps large and small ... all priced to sell to good homes. (Most will be £1 or £2). Also there are 3 good solid workbenches in the garage, available for collection from Scarborough. I would suggest offers around £20 would be fair - 2 of them have carpenter's vices attached, one also has a bench vice. Colin has been in hospital, and is not at all well. It would be nice to think his tools and materials were going to people who can make good use of them. More details on the sales page.
• 15 October 2018 Did you know that there is a British Woodturners Assocation? Its website says: "The Association represents the British wood turning industry and promotes the continuing craftsmanship and skill of its members."
  I have added this to the Links page. (Did you know there are links to around 90 woodturning club websites on the links page? HAve a look a what other clubs are doing.)

• 7 October 2018 Most of the large items on the sales list below (4 Oct) have now sold or been requested. There will be more small items for sale at the next meeting - clamps, vices, tools and consumables. Bring your money!

• 4 October 2018 I have been helping a former Snainton Woodturning Club member clear out his garage and workshop, with the result that there are a number of items for sale. These include a large bandsaw, a 10" x 6" planer thicknesser (Charnwood), an air compressor (unused), a Record CL3 lathe (older model), various clamps, planes and smaller tools. (There were a lot of chisels, but I have bought those.) All items reasonably priced to sell and clear out the workshop, which is in Scarborough. Contact Steve Fearnley in the first instance. I will be bringing some items to the next few club nights. Some pictures and brief details are in the sales section of this website.
• 25 September 2018 A write up of our somewhat unusual September demonstration by John Whiteley is now on the website.
  
• 7 September 2018 At the club meeting it was announced that we have booked the Institute at Thornton le Dale for an exhibition and sale on Saturday and Sunday 17 and 18 November. This does clash with the Harrogate Show, but hopefully enough members can arrange their visits to Harrogate whilst still being able to help at Thornton le Dale (Harrogate is on Friday to Sunday. This was the only weekend available at the hall before Christmas.)
• 6 September 2018 I was sorry to hear the news that former club member Irving Waterhouse has died. Irving was a regular member of the club, and a regular attender at the Wednesday evening sessions, until his struggle with Parkinson's disease prevented him coming. He ran a small business making fishing tackle in his later life. He always delighted in making jigs and other things to solve problems - you can read some of these in the old club Newsletters (available from the bottom of the Events page) - for example, how to stabilise spalted wood in the August 2010 copy.
• 14 August 2018 Some notes and pictures from Thornton le Dale Show, at which we had a stand for the first time. I think it seemed to be well received by the large crowd of visitors. Also copies of the minutes of the AGM and the Chairman's report for 2017-8 are available.
• 2 August 2018 The AGM took place, and a number of issues were resolved. Membership fees will stay at £25 for the year, £33 for couples. Admission on the door at evening demonstrations will be £5, for members and guests. The free "come and try it" offer will cease. A mentoring scheme is proposed for member new to turning - contact the secretary, Malcolm. Instead of bring and tell, we sorted out arrangements for the forthcoming stand at Thornton le Dale Show next week.

• 16 June 2018 If you are looking forward to Richard Findley's demonstration on 5 July, why not have a look at his Instagram page, where he puts daily updates on his work at the Turners' Workshop. Photos, commentary and videos all there. A wealth of information and ideas.
• 16 June 2018 A write-up of Danny Woof's demonstration on Thursday 7 June is now on the site.

• 7 June 2018 We have had 1000 flyers printed to try and raise the profile of the club, and hopefully attract some more members. We will make them available at any exhibitions or sales we mount, and local woodturning tutors will hand them out for us. Snainton Woodworking Supplies also have them on display. I also have an A4 template which I can print if anyone knows of a noticeboard that might attract attention. If anyone would like some to distribute then just let me know.
• 1 June 2018 Keith Harte alerted us to a demonstration by Mark Baker, at our nearby club in Earswick (York), the Jorvik Woodturning Group. It is an all day, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. event, Saturday 18 August, and tickets are £15. It is limited to 50 people, and is likely to be full.

• 27 May 2018 A very brief write up of Sue Harker's demonstration at Snainton Woodworking Supplies last Saturday, 19 May.
• 8 May 2018 I have been doing some tidying up on the website, and trying to improve file structure and consistency. Also I have migrated the site to a new server (Linux instead of Windows if you are interested). This may have resulted, and may still result, in problems accessing certain pages. Please let me know if you experience a problem.
  One result of all this background work is that the Search routine at the top of pages now works - so you can search this site for a particular topic, demonstrator, or picture.
• 7 May 2018 A write up and photos from Randall Marr's demonstration on Thursday 3 May are now on the site.
  Good news on the evening was that Ian Temple has agreed to take on the job of booking demonstrators. Malcolm will continue to do the secretary role, but was heaving a sigh of relief at the end of the evening. Many thanks Ian.
• 27 April 2018Apologies for the lack of a write-up of Peter Osborn's demonstration. I was on holiday on the night, and so was Gordon, the other member who usually takes a number of photos, and always gives me some notes if he is present and I am absent. We may put something together from the DVD that Brian will have made on the night. I have put a few notes together from his website.
• 1 March 2018 Severe bad weather and even worse forecasts have resulted in us cancelling this month's Thursday night demonstration. Apologies if you were hoping to come. Randall Marr will be coming on 3 May instead, in place of David Muckle.
